Rare public entry:

I think I've only done this twice in ten years or so, but this evening I did a bit of a friends cut on LJ. I tried to look at it logically. I realize that LJ is simply not the place people use for a forum any more, and I accept that. People would rather use Facebook or Twitter. I'm just too stubborn to leave LJ, for whatever reasons. Maybe it's nostalgia. Regarding the friends edit, the criteria for the cuts were:

  • a journal that had not been used or been dormant for a couple of years

  • communities that had not been used or been dormant for a couple of years

  • no common interests or interactions

  • journals that had been abandoned for new user names

It was nothing personal. If I've removed you in error or you want back on my friends list, just let me know.

I realize that I'm not the most exciting person in the world right now. I'm sort of a stress-riddled mess at the moment, who visits LJ with good intentions to update and winds up backing out at the last minute or deleting entries because I think people aren't interested in listening to me bitch and moan.I get awfully self-conscious about it. Posting about good days? No problem. Posting about bad days (when it would probably do me good and be cheap therapy)? Problem. It's my own little personal obstacle course, LOL. Some days are better than others. With that said, if anyone feels the need to remove me from their friends list, that's okay. I understand.

I have a couple of friends who make the effort to post little vignettes of their life every day or every week, whether they have good days or bad. I admire them. They are awesome. <3

Hugs, friends list. Big hugs.

We don't mind hearing about the bad days.

I wish it didn't bug me so much. But it does. My brain is a funny place sometimes, LOL.

LOL...I wouldn't be surprised if you culled me because my "journal has been abandoned", but don't. :) I still read my flist pretty much daily. And I always look forward to whatever you post, mundane or not, my friend.

121 days until London, btw. Not that I'm keeping track. /whistles

Yes, LJ isn't what it used to be, and although I don't post nearly as much as I did at one point here, like you I simply am not ready to abandon this format of social media interaction. But yes, do appreciate being able to read about what is going on with you, including the bad days. Part of friendship - even long distance, mostly on-line friendship - is being able to share in the lives of those people. That means the good and the bad. Because I'm convinced one of the definite blessings of relationship is being able to celebrate and multiply the joys among friends, and being able to encourage and even sometimes help carry the burden during the sorrows of life.

I'm glad that some people are still willing to stick it out with LJ. Honestly, it's a more intimate form of sharing news and your life with special friends. I am always so paranoid and cautious on FB. I just do not feel comfortable there.

Ditto to all of the above.. I read religiously even though I don't post anymore. I mean how much of Riley talk can you guys want anyway. Work is hard to write about for zillion reasons, most because only a few would get the jokes.

But I,read and try to comment at least . Love love love LJ, Facebook sucks and while I like twitter, it isn't very deep and what can you discuss in less than 140 characters. And there are the people who say you shouldn't even try to discuss there. Grrr

I have seen multiple co-workers get burned by making inappropriate work comments on FB. It's like some people just don't have common sense. Then they act surprised when superiors or bosses call them on the carpet for mouthing off. What?

And I love Riley talk. :) She's adorable.

You shouldn't feel so self-conscious about posting about what is going on in your life. We are your friends, and we care about what is happening to you. I hadn't been answering friends posts for about a month because I was off-line a lot. I kept all your posts, with the intention of commenting, and going through them now, I noticed that you have deleted a couple of them already. At least I'm pretty sure, because I wouldn't have kept the notification in my email in-box if I couldn't originally have seen your post. I do understand how you can feel self-conscious that way though.

It is a shame that so many people have left LJ. I don't find FB or Twitter as friendly as LJ is. I don't feel that those are the best forums to really connect with friends, especially if you want to comment on a more 1-on-1 basis. With FB, if you make a comment, then everyone else that comments sees those comments, so it is harder to be a little more personal. Here, if you comment, and go back and forth, someone would have to come back to this page in order to see the conversation. So, yea, just a little more personable on LJ.

I've been thinking about doing my own LJ cut. I have been toying with the idea for months now. I wouldn't cut many people, but there are a few that I have nothing in common with. So, we'll see.

Take care Tracy. Thinking about you.
